Amersham Band Members star in Film !

Eight members of the band had a great day on set for the film Hyde Park on Hudson. Featuring as extras to provide a 1930s German oom-pah band, we were quite a sight with period hairstyles, dressed in Lederhosen and complete with sousaphone. Unfortunately we can’t share the pictures yet as they are embargoed until the film release.

 

4th Place at Stevenage The band were awarded a well deserved 4th place out of 16 bands competing in the Regional Contest at Stevenage on 20th March. Fred Harrison, Band Chairman said “we have been consistently in the top few bands over the last couple of years. This result is a great credit to the leadership of our musical director, Paul Fisher”.

 

Amersham Band Awards were presented at our Christmas Concert on 11 December 2010. Winner of the Bandsman of the Year was Fred Harrison, cornet player and band chairman. In the training band Laura Wilson, tenor horn player, won the Junior Bandsman shield and Karla Witcombe received the most improved player award.

 

Band Triumphs at Folkestone

Amersham Band scooped first prize at the Folkestone Contest, gaining praise from the adjudicator as the stand-out winner. The band delivered a cracking performance of A Royal Mile Suite composed by Alan Fernie which also secured additional trophies for best instrumentalist, awarded to our principal cornet Marion Mayhew, best percussion and best back row cornets.

31 years of visiting Bensheim  

wp2cc7d34d_0f.jpg The band visited Amersham’s twin town Bensheim again in September 2010 to take part in the Winzerfest celebrations. The band spent several days enjoying German hospitality with a highlight of travelling by Fire-engine for a concert at the nearby village of Hochstadten, first visited by the band 31 years ago in 1979.

Inaugural Music Fest a huge success

The band hosted a concert at the Elgiva to celebrate music making in the local community. Supported by Amersham A Cappella and Chrysalis Community Choir, and featuring trumpet star Andy Greenwood, the performance was a near sell out and received accolades in the press.

 

New Band CD. The band have recorded a new CD during June. It’s more than 10 years since we made a recording, and the new CD is full of popular numbers from our current repertoire. If you would like a copy, you can buy online, or attend one of our events where they will be on sale.

 

Soprano player highly commended

Adam Bidgood, our soprano cornet player was highly commended at the Chiltern District Youth Awards 2010 on 20th October. Adam had been nominated for the arts category of the awards in recognition of his commitment to the band.

 

Band ranks in top 20 Nationally

wp8a092f1c_0f.jpg Amersham Band competed in the National Brass Band Finals Contest in Harrogate and were placed 20th in the 4th Section. It is 10 years since we last qualified for the Finals in 2000.

 

Top Brass in Concert  Amersham Band hosted a joint concert with Regent Brass on Saturday 18 September. The full house audience gave a warm reception to two top notch bands ahead of the National Finals Contest in Harrogate later in September. The concert included the contest pieces together with a range of other popular pieces and a joint band finale.
